Spells

Bind Elemental Crowd control spell for Elementals, no cooldown.

Bloodlust/Heroism - 30% raid wide haste buff

Chain Lightning - a ranged cleave spell. Deals nature damage to additional mobs near the target. High mana cost.

Earth Shock - Nature direct damage shock, instant cast. Used to discharge excess lightning shield charges with the fulmination talent.

Earthquake - talented ability. Used for AoE nature damage. High mana cost.

Elemental Mastery - talented ability. Increases damage by 15% & haste by 20%. 3 minute cool down reduced by feedback talent.

Flametongue Weapon - weapon imbue that increases damage by at least 5%

Flame Shock - fire shock. part direct damage, part dot.

Hex Crowd control for Beasts/Humanoids. 30 second cooldown.

Lava Burst - fire direct damage spell that has a 100% crit chance if the target has a flame shock dot on it.

Lightning Bolt - nature direct damage, lower mana cost. The spamable damage ability for elemental. Generates shield charges and returns mana via rolling thunder.

Lightning Shield - nature based damage shield that enables rolling thunder behaviour.

Purge Removes a beneficial magic effect from the target

Spiritwalker's Grace - allows for 15 seconds of normal casting while moving.

Thunderstorm - talented ability that returns mana, damages nearby enemies while knocking them back.

Unleash Elements - fire damage, instant cast. Gives a damage buff for the next fire spell.

Wind Sheer Ranged interrupt on a 6 second cooldown, with 2 seconds of lockout.

Spells in Mists of Pandaria

Base Spec

Variation: Change points from Acuity, Reverberation and Totemic Reach to Convection (mana issues), Elemental Warding (magic damage reduction) or Ancestral Resolve (damage reduction while casting)

Glyphs

Prime: Flame Shock, with choice of Lava Burst, Lightning Bolt or Unleashed Lightning depending on preferences/fight. Recommend Unleashed Lightning with Lava Burst if you have T12 4pc otherwise Lightning Bolt.

Major: choice of Chain Lightning, Elemental Mastery, Healing Stream, Lightning Shield, Stoneclaw and Thunder

Minor: Renewed Life, Thunderstorm to remove knockback, otherwise personal preference.

Gearing

Stat Priorities

Hit > Int > Haste >= Mastery > Crit

  • Hit is the most important stat to get up until the hit cap, then it is only useful as reforge fodder
  • Haste > Mastery is a good generalized rule to follow, but the actual stat weights vary based on gear in general, and specifically how much haste you have. For more information see Elemental Guide: Haste vs Mastery

Stat Caps

Hit: 1742 hit/spirit gives 17% hit (1640 for Draenei)

Gems

Meta: Burning Shadowspirit Diamond

Red: Brilliant Inferno Ruby

Yellow: Reckless Ember Topaz

Blue: Purified/Veiled Demonseye (either works, as spirit & hit perform the same function)

Socket for Red gems unless you need extra hit, and ignore socket bonuses that aren't Int.

Enchants

Helm: Arcanum of Hyjal

Shoulders: Greater Inscription of Charged Lodestone

Cloak: Greater Intellect

Chest: Peerless Stats

Bracer: Mighty Intellect

Gloves: Greater Mastery or Haste depending on EP valuations for both

Legs: Powerful Ghostly Spellthread

Boots: Haste or Precision, depending on hit requirements.

Weapon: Power Torrent

Shield/Off Hand: Superior Intellect

Reforging

Reforging from: Excess Hit > Crit >> Mastery Reforge to: Hit (when under cap) > Haste > Mastery

Rotation

The elemental rotation is a combination of cool down use, flame shock up times, and preventing the waste of shield charges.

1. Keep lightning shield up. This should not be an issue if you have the correct talents & glyphs.

2. Keep flame shock up. Lava burst is virtually worthless to cast if it doesn't auto crit. It's ok to recast this 5 seconds early if you're approaching 9 lightning shield charges

3. Use Lava Burst whenever it is off cooldown.

4. Cast Earth Shock at either 8 or 9 stacks of Lightning Shield. Aim for 9, but it's ok to cast it on 8 charges if all you are casting is Lightning Bolts, or at 7 if Flame Shock is expiring soon

5. Cast lightning bolt. (Note: there are some suggestions that Chain Lightning can be used in a single target rotation. Simulations have confirmed that this is not the case).

Area of Effect Rotation

1. Cast Earthquake on the mob stack, or the most efficient place for it.

2. Chain Lightning.

3. Earth Shock when at 9 shield charges. You'll be generating charges left right and center, so it's ok to waste a few.

Mobile Rotation

DPS on the move is fairly similar to the stationary rotation, if you have Glyph of Unleashed Lightning on, which you should do. The only difference is that you can't cast Lava Burst on the move, so either save Spiritwalker's Grace for when you can't stop running, or stop for a quick cast if it is safe to do so.

Totem Use

Your default totem loadout should be Searing/Fire Elemental, Wrath of Air, Stoneskin, and Healing Stream. You should be aware of what raid buffs are present, and which are not so that you can adjust your totem selection accordingly. eg: you have a Shadow Priest present, but no Enhancement Shaman or Death Knights, so replacing Wrath of Air with Windfury would be a good idea.

Cooldowns

NeedToKnow NeedToKnow is a configurable bar timer addon that allows you to watch anything time related, like cooldowns, buffs, debuffs, etc.

Power Auras Power Auras is a configurable HUD aura to let you know when certain things have happened, like cooldowns finishing or buffs being up.

SexyCooldowns SexyCooldowns is a logarithmic bar timer for events, cooldowns, etc

Rotation & Spells

EventHorizon EventHorizon allows you to see the next 12-18 seconds of your rotation with cast times, dot uptimes, and cooldowns, allowing you to judge what you should cast next. Can be heavily customized via a LUA file.

Raeli's Spell Announcer RSA is a nifty little addon to announce when you've used certain spells, like Wind Sheer.

Quartz Quartz is a very useful cast bar addon.

Totem Management

TotemTimers One of the oldest totem management addons around, it's also one of the best.
