Ask A (Theorycraft) Question
Do you have a theorycraft related question you want to ask? Maybe you want some mechanic explained? Ask away! If I don't know I'll try to find out the answer.
- Damage/healing calculations - Coefficients, passive bonuses, critical multipliers, damage buffs & debuffs
- Haste stacking - why it's counter intuitive
Is there any reason other than mana not to use Chain lightning instead of Lightning bolt? from having a look at the Mist's ERC it appears that chain lightning has a higher DPSC. Chain Lightning also has a lower base cast time. All mechanics other than Unleashed fury are shared between the two abilities, if this is the only mechanic that pushes Lightning bolt ahead in MoP then it wil be interesting to see the comparison to Primal Elementalist.
Sorry if this is in the wrong section just seemed like the right place to ask.
That's more of a "haven't sat down to answer" question, as I haven't even included CL in the rotation options or any of the CL glyphs yet.
Actually, it was because I was handling overloads & echo procs in the total column rather than the average. Correcting it into the average gives LB a ~500 dpsc advantage, but I'd need to go back & recheck the CL math (or actually complete it)
I've seen many variants of the DPS abbreviation including dpsc, what do they mean? damage per second per cast I think but was never sure.
How do you basically work out a rotation? I always though it was someone on a dummy for hours on end but you appear to use a spreadsheet which honestly confuses me.
It depends on who's using it. DPSC/DPCT = damage per second casting / damage per cast time (I'm not so sure on the second one). They basically amount to the total damage of the spell divided by the time spent casting it. This is only ever different from the DPS of the spell for DoTs, which will have high DPSC but low DPS.
Rotations are worked out by looking at spell interactions (ie: Flame Shock must be up before Lava Burst is cast) and then runs from highest DPSC to lowest. The dummy vs spreadsheet bit is actually working out the DPS, rather than the actual rotation itself, although the spreadsheet can show you things which you wouldn't ordinarily realize without a more in depth mathematical analysis.
